Cabalen Sweet & Savory is a business that is rich in family and is operated by two ambitious sisters from Pampanga Philippines with big dreams. This business was founded in 2015 and kickstarted in Oakland, California’s Fruitvale district. Cofounder Emily Shakour received her diploma from the Institute of Culinary Education in 2013 in Manhattan. Ms. Shakour has had various previous work experiences in the metropolitan area of the Big Apple including a wide array of different food establishments; Prior to settling in New York, she lived in Egypt for three years, accumulating knowledge of the rich culture.

She eventually relocated to the West Coast, in California to be closer to her sister. Jenny Canotal has also immigrated here from the Philippines, where she was preoccupied as a nurse. Together, they formed Cabalen Sweet & Savory using their understanding of health and delectable foods with a range of cultural influences from Southeast Asia to the Middle East. Together, they envision creating and serving tasty, flavorful products that are free of any additives or chemicals.
